Microsoft extends virus warnings for Windows XP to 2015

About 30% of all desktops are thought to be still running Windows XP

Microsoft has decided to continue providing virus warnings for the ageing Windows XP operating system until 2015.

The warnings were due to end on 8 April 2014 when all other support for the software is scheduled to stop.

However, the numbers still running the 12-year-old operating system convinced it to provide more help.

About 30% of all desktop computers are still running XP, according tofigures from research firm Net Applications.

Microsoft explained its change of policy in a blogpost saying the feed of security information was the only support XP users would receive after 8 April this year.

This would mean that it continued to provide signatures for well-known malicious programs that will help Windows XP spot when viruses, trojans and other cyber-threats try to compromise a PC. The malware-spotting updates will be provided for Microsoft's Security Essentials and for a wide variety of corporate tools used to protect large numbers of PCs.

These security updates will be produced until 14 July, 2015.

However, security patches, regular updates and bug fixes for XP will stop as scheduled on 8 April.

In its blogpost, Microsoft warned users to stop using XP to ensure they stay safe.

"The effectiveness of anti-malware solutions on out-of-support operating systems is limited," said Microsoft. "Running a well-protected solution starts with using modern software and hardware designed to help protect against today's threat landscape."

Despite its age, Windows XP has proved to have a long life on desktops in homes and businesses. This led Microsoft to keep selling it long past the date it was due to be removed from shop shelves.

This longevity is partly because of the poor reception that its successor Windows Vista received and because some businesses have found it hard to adapt to the changes introduced in Windows 7 and 8.

How to Insert a YouTube Video into Your Web Page with Dreamweaver

This tutorial deals with how you can embed a YouTube video onto your web page using the Dreamweaver web editor. You can also use this same procedure to embed a video hosted with another video sharing service, such as those listed on the Free Video Sharing Services and Hosting page.

Prerequisites

This article assumes that you already know how to create a website using Dreamweaver. If this is not true, you may want to read the following articles first.

How to Start / Create a Website: The Beginner's A-Z Guide takes you through all the steps needed to starting a website.

My Dreamweaver CS6 Tutorial, Dreamweaver CS5.5 Tutorial, Dreamweaver CS4 Tutorial, Dreamweaver CS5 Tutorial and Dreamweaver CS3 Tutorial deal specifically with the design of a site using Dreamweaver. ("CS6", "CS 5.5", "CS5", "CS4" and "CS3" are just different version numbers. Just read the one corresponding to the version you have.)

I will also assume that you have already uploaded a video to YouTube or some other video sharing web host.

Steps to Embedding a Video onto Your Site

The procedure for adding the YouTube code to your web page is essentially the same as that described in the more general article How to Insert Raw HTML Code in Dreamweaver.

Get the Embed Code

Go to the page where your video is displayed in YouTube, or whatever video sharing service you're using. You should be able to find the "Embed" code for the video. This is the code that you will insert so that the video will appear on your web page.

The embed code looks something like the following:

Select the code, and copy it to your clipboard. That is, after selecting the entire block of text in the "Embed" box, click "Edit" on the menu bar and select "Copy" on the menu that appears.

Open Your Web Page in Dreamweaver

Now start Dreamweaver, and load the web page where you want the video to appear, and click the spot on the page where the video should be placed. The blinking text cursor should appear in that location.

Insert the YouTube Embed Code in the Code Mode

The simplest way to insert the YouTube code is to switch to Dreamweaver's "Code" mode, which allows you to see the actual HTML that is produced by the editor for your web page. To do this, click the "View" menu, and then select the "Code" menu item on the menu that appears.

The screen should switch from the visual layout displayed by the "Design" mode to show you the "raw" HTML for your page. Since you have already positioned your cursor at the place you want the movie/video clip to appear, all you have to do at this point is to insert the code you copied earlier. To do this, click the "Edit" menu and select "Paste" from the menu that appears.

At the bottom of the page, in the Properties panel, you should see a button labelled "Refresh". Click it.

Switch back to the "Design" mode by selecting "Design" from the "View" menu. Although you won't be able to view your video clip in Dreamweaver, a placeholder box should be visible on your page. If the position of the box is not satisfactory, for example, if the video is placed on the same line as an existing line of text, you can move that text away by simply hitting the ENTER key (or RETURN key if you use a Mac) after positioning the cursor at the beginning of the text in question.

Once you're satisfied, publish your page onto your site and test it by visiting the page with a web browser.

Things to Note

The YouTube Code May Not Validate

If you are in the habit of using a web page validator to check whether your page has errors, as discussed in my article "HTML and CSS Validation: Should You Validate Your Web Page?", you may find that your web page, which previously probably validated fine, no longer checks out as having valid HTML.

The validator is correct in saying that the YouTube code is not valid. However, before you rush off to replace the code with more standards-compliant HTML, note that support for standards-compliant code is not uniform among browsers where the embedding of the YouTube flash video object is concerned. Your perfectly standards-compliant code may work well in one browser, but have minor quirks in another. The non-standards-compliant code supplied by YouTube, however, works perfectly in all graphical browsers. In other words, while the code is not "standard" in the sense that it is allowed in the official specifications, it is a de facto standard as far as modern browser support is concerned.

Update: I have not checked the most recent versions of the Youtube code. It's entirely possible that they have cleaned up their code so that it is compliant with the HTML standards, especially since most web browsers nowadays support standards-compliant code out-of-the-box.

Convert Active Content Dialog Box

If you close the page containing the YouTube embed code, then reopen it in Dreamweaver, Dreamweaver may display a dialog box warning you that the page contains code that will not work in the most recent versions of Internet Explorer. It will offer to convert the tags for you to browser-safe versions.

Don't be alarmed. In spite of the warning, the default code supplied by YouTube appear to work fine in the web browsers I have tested. To be safe, though, whether you allow Dreamweaver to convert the code or not, you should always test your pages in as many browsers as possible. Suggestions on how to test with multiple browsers, including multiple versions of IE are given in my article on How to Check Your Website with Multiple Browsers on a Single Machine.

Conclusion

télécharger une vidéo sur YouTube ?

• Qui n'a jamais souhaité télécharger une vidéo visionnée sur YouTube ?! Et bien il existe quelques outils relativement simples comme TubeMaster++ et l'extension DownloadHelper pour Firefox qui vous permettront de rapatrier sur votre disque dur n'importe quelle vidéo. Voici tout d'abord la marche à suivre avec TubeMaster++, nous présenterons ensuite comment utiliser DownloadHelper :
  
  

  Utilisation de TubeMaster++ :

  
  Étape 1 : Récupérez TubeMaster ++ pour Windows 7, Vista, XP et 2000 sur Clubic.
  
  Étape 2 : Installez le logiciel en double cliquant sur le fichier exécutable tout juste téléchargé. Choisissez un répertoire d'installation, configurez l'ajout de raccourcis puis cliquez sur Install.
  
  Étape 3 : Les installations de WinPcap et de Java sont alors requises, acceptez.
  
  Étape 4 : Une fois l'installation de Java terminée, lancez TubeMaster++. Initialement en anglais, rendez-vous dans Options, Application Language et choisissez French. Redémarrez l'application afin d'appliquer le changement de langue.
  
  Étape 5 : TubeMaster++ est maintenant en français, vous voilà dans de bonnes conditions pour travailler ! Par défaut, la capture est active, c'est-à-dire que le logiciel va capturer toutes les vidéos YouTube que vous visionnerez depuis votre navigateur. Les vidéos capturées sont ensuite listées dans l'onglet Capture Multimédia, vous n'avez plus qu'à Renommer et Sauver à l'emplacement de votre choix vos vidéos favorites ! Pour arrêter la capture, cliquez simplement sur l'onglet Désactiver Capture.
  
  L'onglet Convertir Sélection autorise la conversion des captures dans de multiples formats (avi, divx, mp4, mp3, Raw DV, DVD, VCD, 3GP, 3g2, Mov) et résolutions (BlackBerry, Creative Zen, iPod, LG Chocolate, XBOX 360, Zune, Neuros OSD, Palm, PS3, PSP, RB Toshiba, RB iRiver, RB Cowon et RB Sandisk).
  
  
  
  
  
  L'onglet Recherche Vidéos vous permet d'effectuer une recherche parmi de nombreuses plates-formes. Lorsque vous avez trouvé votre bonheur, cliquez sur Lancer Vidéo.   Utilisation de DownloadHelper :

  
  Pour les utilisateurs de Mozilla Firefox, il existe une autre méthode tout aussi simple grâce à l'extensionDownloadHelper :
  
  Étape 1 : Ouvrez votre navigateur Mozilla Firefox et récupérez l'extension Video DownloadHelper sur Clubic. Vous êtes redirigé sur la page des modules pour Firefox. Cliquez ensuite sur Ajouter à Firefox. Si Firefox empêche l'installation, cliquez sur Autoriser en haut à droite.
  
  
  
  
  
  Une boite de dialogue s'ouvre, cliquez sur Installer maintenant. Une fois le téléchargement finalisé, il vous est demandé de Redémarrer Firefox pour appliquer les changements, faites-le.
  
  Étape 2 : DownloadHelper est maintenant installé. Rendez-vous sur YouTube et la vidéo que vous souhaitez télécharger. À gauche de l'adresse de la vidéo apparait dorénavant le bouton DownloadHelper, pressez-le pour lancer automatiquement le téléchargement de la vidéo au format FLV. Par défaut, un dossier dwhelper est créé dans votre dossier utilisateur pour stocker les vidéos.
  
  À côté du bouton existe également un menu déroulant offrant de nombreux choix. En cliquant surTéléchargement, une boîte de dialogue vous demande un nom de fichier ainsi qu'un emplacement avant de télécharger la vidéo.
  
  Le choix et la qualité du format de conversion peuvent se faire en cliquant sur Téléchargement et conversion.

Depuis sa création, Youtube, Dailymotion et consorts ont su se rendre indispensables au regard de la plupart des internautes, qui peuvent accéder à une immense quantité de vidéos en tout genre, professionnelles ou amateurs, et ce gratuitement. 

Nous sommes beaucoup à nous rendre sur ces sites, pour y visionner toute sorte de vidéos, divertissantes ou pratiques, ou y retrouver les clips de nos chansons préférées et se constituer des playlists en fond sonore. Si la qualité est en deçà de ce qui existe sur des plateformes comme Deezer ouSpotify, ces herbégeurs vidéo se rattrapent par la diversité de leur contenu, et il y a de bonnes chances pour que les vidéos ou musiques que vous cherchiez, même les plus exotiques, soit présentes sur ces derniers. 

Ecouter sa musique sur son ordinateur c'est bien, pouvoir l'emporter lors de ses déplacements c'est encore mieux. Il existe plusieurs solutions, logicielles ou en ligne, pour télécharger les vidéos qui vous plaisent, ou bien en extraire le son pour le copier sur votre baladeur mp3. Beaucoup peuvent paraître confuses ou souffrent de bugs répétés, c'est pourquoi nous avons sélectionné les produits les plus intéressants du moment.

Une version logicielle qui fait office de référence. Elle requiert donc une installation, franchement rapide, mais prend en charge un grand nombre de format. Malgré son nom, elle est également valable pour les vidéos présentes sur Dailymotion. Le logiciel n'existe qu'en anglais mais son interface est très facile à prendre en main. Copiez le lien en haut, spécifiez la résolution souhaitée (dans la mesure où cette dernière est disponible sur la vidéo originale). Choisissez un format parmi une longue liste proposée : MP4, AVI, WMV, MOV, ainsi que de nombreux formats propres à certains appareils. Enfin, spécifiez un dossier de sauvegarde, puis cliquez sur « download ». 

Une fois la conversion terminée, vous pouvez visionner le résultat en cliquant sur le bouton « play » en bas à droite, ou aller chercher votre fichier dans le dossier spécifié. 

VLC media player

Vous avez aussi la possibilité de télécharger les vidéos de youtube grâce à VLC media player que vous pourrez télécharger sur cette page. 

Pour cela, après avoir ouvert la dernière version du lecteur, il vous faut aller dans média puisconvertir/enregistrer. 
Une fois la nouvelle fenêtre apparue, sélectionnez Réseau . 
On vous y demandera d'entrer une URL réseau, copiez-y donc l'URL de votre vidéo puis ouvrez le menu défilant à coté de Convertir/Enregistrer pour y choisir Convertir. (Notez que le raccourci afin de faire cette manipulation est Alt+C) 

Une nouvelle fenêtre fera son apparition, vous y préciserez le fichier de destination avec l'extension mpget aurez la possibilité d'éditer certains paramètres tels que le format dans lequel sera converti la vidéo, enregistrement du flux brut, etc... 
Une fois satisfait de vos paramètres, il ne vous reste plus qu'a cliquer sur Démarrer. 

Si vous voyez que le téléchargement ne se lance pas sur le lecteur multimédia VLC, appuyez sur play, ce qui devrait lancer le téléchargement. 

Download Helper

La fameuse extension de Firefox, capable de télécharger n'importe quelle vidéo présente sur une page web. Si vous ne l'avez pas déjà installé, cliquez sur ce lien puis, à partir du navigateur de rigueur, « ajouter à Firefox ». Installez-le, relancez Firefox, voilà c'est fait. 

L'icône de l'extension apparait en haut à gauche de l'interface (les trois billes rouges, bleues et jaunes). Elle s'activera dès qu'elle aura repéré une vidéo sur une page web. A partir de là, rendez-vous sur la vidéo de votre choix, puis cliquez sur l'icône en question et choisissez le format de votre choix : MP4 (240, 360 ou 480p), ou FLV. Le téléchargement débutera automatiquement, vous n'aurez plus qu'à récupérer le fichier dans votre dossier de téléchargements. 

Chrome grimpe très rapidement en popularité, il a donc également eu droit à un module dédié, fonctionnant sur le même principe.

Fluvore

Fluvore est l'outil le plus utilisé pour télécharger des vidéos en ligne. Il vous permet d'extraire des vidéos de Youtube, mais également Dailymotion, et d'autres plateformes d'hébergement vidéo. Vous pouvez convertir les vidéos en différents formats : MP3, AVI, MOV, MP4, 3GL (pour les téléphones portables) ouFLV, le format flash le plus répandu sur ces plateformes. Son avantage est son interface très simple. Il vous faut simplement copier l'URL de la vidéo que vous souhaitez télécharger dans la barre du haut, puis choisir le format désiré, avant de cliquer sur « convertir et télécharger la vidéo ». 

La conversion est rapide, une trentaine de seconde, après quoi vous n'aurez plus qu'à télécharger le fichier converti. 

Attention cependant, certaines vidéos ne fonctionnent pas sur le site, pour des questions de serveurssemble-t-il. Si vous bloquez sur certaines vidéos, rechargez la page ou utilisez une autre méthode. 

Keepvid

Même principe que pour Fluvore, Keepvid vous permet de télécharger les vidéos issues de diverses plateformes de vidéos. L'outil fonctionne avec le logiciel Java, qu'il faudra télécharger si besoin et activer. Copiez le lien sur la barre en haut de la page, puis cliquez sur « download ». 

Vous aurez alors le choix entre plusieurs formats : FLV (240, 360 ou 480p), MP4 (jusqu'à 480p), WebM (360 ou 480p) et bien sûr MP3. Cliquez simplement sur le format que vous désirez, le téléchargement débutera automatiquement. A priori cela fonctionne pour toutes les vidéos.
